Since its inception in July of 2011, Shelter of Peace has already offered the faith based community a wide variety of events, including a Breakfast Briefing for NYC clergy and a rally at Union Square, held to draw the public’s attention to the issue of youth homelessness. Both events presented experts in the field, capable of sharing the facts, figures and process of funding homeless shelters. They also included the homeless youth themselves, enabling those attending to hear the degree to which our elected officials have let them down. On the weekend of January 20th, 2012 SOP churches and synagogues participated in a weekend of prayer and learning. We organized two trips to Albany, NY to lobby for homeless youth.
